I’m going to let you in on a secret… you don’t need a huge following to sell your products, services, or anything else on social media. That’s right, I said it.

So many people I speak with come to me saying, “Lucy, I want to launch x but I don’t have a huge following on Instagram or Facebook.”

Look, if you want to find an excuse as to why you can’t be successful, you will. But let’s look at the glass half full for a minute.

If you are willing to put in the work, you can sell out your new course, coaching service, personal training… literally whatever you want! IF you are willing to take the time to establish authority and connections on social media.

A man named Kevin Kelly wrote an article based on the concept of having 1,000 true fans. He stated that you don’t need 10,000 or 100,000 followers to run a successful business– all you need is 1,000 people who will consume all your content, share your message with their friends and family, and purchase anything you release without question! These are the people who will travel to see you speak live, or attend your retreats. If you have 1,000 true fans, and you sold each of them $100 worth of products or services, you would make $100,000 per year. If you sold 1,000 true fans $1000 of your services, you would be a millionaire. So, let that sink in…

We spend so much time consumed with the idea that if we don’t have a following like the Kardashians, that we can’t be successful. I’m here to tell you: that’s just not true!

It doesn’t matter if you have 100 followers… You can still do it. Start today by following these steps.

** Psst! If after this blog post, you find yourself wanting more information on how I turn followers into customers, stick around to download my free eBook. (This is the good stuff that my clients literally pay me thousands per month to execute for them so you don’t want to miss it!)

So let’s go ahead and dive into these tips, shall we?

  1. Message people who watch your stories that you don’t know!

People love to talk about themselves. This is nothing new, so make sure you’re asking them questions and making them feel important! Something like, “I would love to learn more about this (fill in the blank) industry that you’re obviously very knowledgeable in. Could we chat?” or “I would love to connect!” They need to feel comfortable with you. Scroll through your Instagram Stories to see who is already consuming your content, and ensure that you’re making those connections!

  1. Reach out to your ideal clients daily and offer them customized value specific to their business.

I attempt to do this with at least 5 ideal clients per day, and have made over 6 figures with this strategy alone. I like to reach out to them and compliment their business/what they are doing, let them know why I think we are aligned, and offer them value. I show them that I have value to offer without them needing to pay for anything! This will establish the three ingredients you need to make a sale: they need to know, like and trust you.

  1. Send VIDEOS!

Personalized videos show you put in effort, and that you care about the people you’re reaching out to. Your video can open the door to communication, and even if what you do doesn’t match to every potential client, you can definitely still ask them for a referral if they ever run across someone who would need your services.

*For Example: I recently reached out to someone I highly look up to in the industry (i.e. she has a huge following and very successful business!) with a customized video of an opportunity I could see her business needed to implement. I let her know who I am, what I do, and simply reached out to let her know that I really value her and what she offers to the industry. She was so impressed that I had sent this to her, that she began asking more questions about what I do and what I could offer to she and her team. I then sent a tailored video to help her with her business, and because of those 2 videos, I ended up landing a dream client because I was willing to reach out and give her tips that would add value to her business!

  1. Create goodwill and offer value in exchange for nothing.

The goal is to help potential clients without asking for anything in return.

  1. This may seem like a no brainer: but you have to post the offer.

People can’t buy from you if they don’t know what you’re selling! People will choose to work with you based on who you are. So be sure you remember that there is a fine line… Posting vs. Posting Too Much. Your audience will still want to know who you are along with what you are selling, and the balance in your posting is crucial. Every 4-5 posts could be a product/sales post, (for a launch, more frequently) but remember: people buy from someone they know, like, and trust and if you’re constantly trying to get into their wallet… they probably won’t trust or like you! Don’t overdo it. Be effective, but not annoying.

To Recap:

  • Create goodwill with your connections.
  • Even if your initial connection doesn’t have a need for your area of expertise, one of their connections might!
  • To make a sale: people must know, like, and trust you.
  • To make a sale people MUST know what you offer
